If your neighbourhood goes pitch dark at 6 in the afternoon, and your house has no electricity, how are you going to do your homework? You huddle around a kerosene lamp with your brother and friend.

You can feel the heat and know that accidentally touching it could burn your skin or even your house. Your eyes get teary and the headaches start again, your breathing becomes difficult.

All of this makes it very hard to concentrate, especially as you know that there is only enough kerosene for one hour of studying.

You need to share your book with your friends as your parents could not afford a copy for you…

A simple solution brings direct benefits

From the families that participated in our trials in Tanzania, we received great news:

not only did the families have much more money to spend on school supplies, but also that the children’s test scores had improved considerably.

Furthermore, they had more energy in general and spent less time sick in bed, away from school. They concentrated better, could buy their own materials and can do more homework in less time, leaving more time to play!
